Khune 'kicks better than most'

Johannesburg - Itumeleng Khune strikes a ball better than most players at Kaizer Chiefs, said caretaker coach Donald Khuse as he explained the reason why the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper took late free kick for his club in their 1-0 loss to Maritzburg United on Tuesday.

The goalkeeper rushed up field to take a set piece just outside the Maritzburg penalty area as time was ticking away in the Absa Premiership game in Polokwane.

Khune, who has not yet scored in the league, put his effort wide of the post after bending it over the wall, unable to equalise for his kick.

“For me to allow him to take the free kick I because of the technical skills that he has,” explained caretaker coach Donald Khuse in the wake of the loss.

“He uses his feet very and he’s a great technician. He’s better than some outfield players when it comes to kicking a ball,” Khuse added.

Khune returned to the Chiefs line-up on Tuesday after a lay-off for ahead injury suffered in Durban against Lamontville Golden Arrows. “His return is a big boost for the side,” the coach added.
