Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Joseph Setlhodi has called for the reappointment of Itumeleng Khune as club captain.
Setlhodi, who represented Amakhosi during the 70's and 80's, believes Khune is better suited to the role than current incumbent Siphiwe Tshabalala.
Khune relinquished the captaincy last season during an injury-riddled year. After his infamous departure and eventual return to Chiefs at the beginning of the season, Tshabalala was handed the role of captain permanently.
"I think that the current Chiefs team needs a leader in defence. The captain should be at the back. Honestly, Tshabalala is not vocal enough, and he doesn't see much from his position in the midfield," Setlhodi told Goal website.
"If you are complete at the back, then you can compete with anyone. I believe that every good coach builds his team from the back. That's very important for all good teams.
"I suggest that they give Khune the armband again. Yes, he had his issues with the team in the past. But they are now resolved.
"He has everything you need in a championship winning captain."
