Johannesburg - SuperSport United chairperson Khulu Sibiya has warned English giants Tottenham Hotspur that defender Bongani Khumalo will not come cheap.
The Bafana Bafana star returns to South Africa on Thursday following a trial with the Champions League outfit and Sibiya expects to discover shortly whether Harry Redknapp's charges will table an offer for the 23-year-old.
"Of all my top players, Bongani was the only one who had never been overseas. However, if Tottenham want Bongani they should be prepared to put a good offer on the table," Sibiya told the Sowetan.
This follows a recent trend by PSL bosses to make sure that they receive adequate funds for the transfer of their players to European clubs.
He continued: "The offer should reflect that they believe in the player. This will be reflected in what they put on the table and as SuperSport United we should be assured the boy is going places.
"There is a trend for Africans to be undervalued while the attitude is different for, say, a player from Russia."
Sibiya pointed to interest showed in Mozambique international Elias Pelembe before he joined Mamelodi Sundowns from Matsatsantsa.
"When Elias Pelembe was here, top Portuguese team Benfica wanted him to come for trials. Pelembe told them that since they had his tapes and had heard everything about him from their own scout, they should have signed him outright if they wanted him. There is a procedure with clubs in Africa that I'm uncomfortable with," Sibiya concluded.
