Cape Town - Hlompho Kekana is expecting an action-packed encounter when Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United lock horns on Wednesday night.

The previous Tshwane Derby produced four goals, as Sundowns rallied from behind to clinch a 3-1 Premiership victory on 3 December, 2014.

It was a closely contested match, and Kekana is expecting more of the same when the two sides renew hostilities at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in the penultimate fixture of the campaign.

"This is one match that promises a lot of fireworks, not just because there's bragging rights at stake but because history doesn't lie," Kekana told the club's official website.

"Whenever these two sides have met, there have been goals, end-to-end action and drama."

Having represented both Tshwane clubs, Kekana knows better than most what to expect in the derby.

He added: "Both these two clubs are obsessed with success and you can tell by the number of times the league has been won between them.

"Another exciting thing about this particular match is that both coaches are tactically sound, but that doesn't mean boring because a win will be important for either side.

"I have played for both teams and the motivation for players to do well is always there on either side no matter the occasion.

"When I was with Supersport, the football was very direct but now a lot has changed in terms of their approach to the match.

"There's a lot of ball playing and speed in their attack. They have dynamic players in the middle of the park which I believe will make for enterprising football."

What adds an extra spice to this encounter is the fact SuperSport will be looking to avenge their defeat to the very same opponents at the start of December, while also keeping their top-eight charge on track.

Gordon Igesund's men will be acutely aware that a defeat to Downs could see them drop down to eighth place ahead of the final day of the campaign.

Sundowns, meanwhile, will be targeting all three points in a bid to ensure a second-placed finish in the league standings.
