Cape Town - Orlando Pirates full-back Happy Jele says it was hard work and determination that helped the team recover from the departure of coach Vladimir Vermezovic last season.
The Soweto club managed to steady the ship following the departure of Vermezovic, with the Serbian's replacement, Eric Tinkler steering Pirates to a fourth-place finish in the PSL.
In fact, Bucs lost just one match in the second half of the campaign, under the guidance of the former Bafana international.
When asked what lead to their impressive turnaround in the second half of the PSL season, Jele told Soccer Laduma: "Hard work and determination.
"Yes, there were a lot of things which happened. After losing Senzo Meyiwa, we then parted ways with coach VV (Vladimir Vermezovic). But when coach Tinkler came in, we continued with determination.
"It was hard times, but we had to put everything behind us and make sure that we got the results. That helped us and, as players, we fought for each other throughout the season."
