Cape Town - Happy Jele has expressed his delight after helping Orlando Pirates secure victory away from home in their Group B CAF Confederations Cup clash against AC Leopards.
Pirates, who had never defeated Leopards prior to the encounter, registered a well-deserved 1-0 victory courtesy of a 57th minute strike from Jele.
“I am very happy to have contributed to the team’s win today," Jele told the club's official website.
"This victory was very important to us because like in the 2013 Champions League, we understand how important it is to win the opening game.
“It’s always great scoring but as a defender I am equally delighted to have been able to help the team record a clean sheet in a tough game like that one.”
Pirates who are known for playing fast and enterprising carpet football were forced to adjust their game to the conditions at hand.
“When it comes to playing in any of the CAF matches we understand the importance of winning over entertaining.
"It isn’t easy playing away from home,” stressed the star defender.
“There are many conditions we are faced with and for that reason we simplify things and focus on getting the job done. Overall, we are happy with the result.
"We are going back home with what we came here to get...three points!”, concluded Jele.
