The sides finished 120 minutes at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium with the scores still goalless on Saturday, meaning penalties would decide this year's Ke Yona outcome, with the Brazilians just edging it 4-3 from the spot.

Speaking after the game, the 2014/15 nominated PSL Goalkeeper of the Season said: "It's hard to find the right words at the moment, we were so close but Sundowns were a little bit better and they deserved to win the Nedbank Cup.

"It's already one week after the league finished and we still feel like we had the legs to go and run, that's our key element, start strongly and get the opening goal."

He added: "It’s a massive achievement from us, we had a young team, I'm so proud of these boys and obviously the coaching staff and the whole Ajax family, we've done well."
