It’s all in our hands - Mashego

Cape Town - As the focus switches back to domestic football, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mashego said his team-mates’ main objective will be to reduce the five-point deficit when they host Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday night.

The Brazilians and the Phefeni Glamour Boys will battle in a mouth-watering top-of-the-table Absa Premiership clash at the Loftus in Pretoria.

Chiefs are currently at the log summit with one more game played over Sundowns and they will be looking to extend their lead to eight points.

Speaking to the Sundowns’ official website, the Bafana Bafana forward said the match against Chiefs presents them the opportunity to do things for themselves, and not wait for anyone to do favours for them.

“Mahoota” also added that if the Brazilians want to stay within contention for the league title they must beat Chiefs, especially playing at home where they have enjoyed a decent run.

The former Golden Arrows striker was part of the Bafana team for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) when they failed to progress to the competition’s knockout stages.

Mashego featured on two occasions in the tournament - against Mozambique and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Chiefs will welcome back Siphiwe Tshabalala, Bernard Parker, Tefu Mashamaite and Itumeleng Khune - who were also part of Gordon Igesund’s squad.

Mashego is currently enjoying his spell with the five times PSL winners since joining them from Moroka Swallows during the off-season.

Mashego won the Lesley Manyathela golden boot last season with the Dube Birds and is currently second on the top goal-scorers list with six goals, two behind Parker of Chiefs.

Kick-off for the much anticipated clash is scheduled for 19:30.
