Igesund the 'Special One'

Johannesburg - Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Greg Etafia has likened Gordon Igesund to Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, claiming the Dube Birds coach is truly "the Special One".

Swallows are currently on course to challenge for the PSL title this season and sit just four points behind leaders Orlando Pirates, who they drew 0-0 with on Wednesday evening.

Igesund, a four-time PSL title winning coach, has earned plenty of plaudits during his years in South Africa's top-flight, and Etafia, who was inspirational against the Buccaneers in midweek, feels the 55-year-old deserves all the praise he has received.

"I call him the Special One'," Etafia told the PSL's official website. "As a coach, Gordon has everything. He is like a father figure to the team, and treats everyone as equals.

"To win the league four times with four different clubs speaks for itself and says everything about him. He is a practitioner; he lives football and always has the right game-plan for each match.

"All credit must go to Gordon and his technical team for turning things around, not only this season, but saving us from relegation last season."

Swallows are next in action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to the Botshabelo Stadium to take on Bloemfontein Celtic, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

This guy is brilliant and we all knows it, we stuck with an arrogant prick who is he is the best and all he do is talk and either draw or lose games

  • Mashudu - 2012-04-20 09:33

Igesund is the right coach for chiefs.

  • Wimpie.Haefele - 2012-04-20 09:37

He should be the Bafana Bafana coach, he is the best coach in SA

  • Dhirshan - 2012-04-20 09:43

he should have been assistant to parreira for bafana not pitso and hence would have now been in charge. he is in the clive barker mould of coaches and we all know what barker achieved!

Mourinho is the worst coach ever, i dont know y people praise him so much becoz he encourages players to fight, hence ther is no discipline @ real madrid, thts why cum sunday a more disciplined barca will emerge victorious. Igesun is nt like morinho, Please!!

after this season mourinho would've won the league with every team he's managed in the last 9 years. he's also still in with a chance of becoming the first manager EVER to win 3 champions league titles with 3 different teams. as for the "disciplined" barca... diving and feigning injury is just as undisciplined as anything mourinho has done, in fact i'd go so far as to call some of barca's antics cheating on occasions. i think gordon igesund would feel very humbled to be compared to mourinho!

      Mutsila - 2012-04-20 13:34

Morinho is de special 1,when he arrive 2 any team things starts 2 happen, results n titles, jst lyk what Egusund will do 4 Moroka Swallows

  • Riaz - 2012-04-20 10:01

wat an insult to murinho... how can u compare igesund to him!! Pls man, get a life! Jose is simply in another class

      Mutsila - 2012-04-20 13:29

Etafia is right,4 a coach 2 come 2 a team in a religation battle 2 save de team frm de drop n de following season the team is on top 4, Surely a coach must b special.

      Namedi - 2012-04-20 23:12

@Riaz, Mr Igesund has turned around Moroka Swallows without breaking the bank, however, wherever Mourinho has coached he has requested his own special troops "at a price". No doubt about Mr Mourinohs credentials, but he can be very costly for your business.

  • thamifraser - 2012-04-21 12:35

The man deserves much more recognition than he's getting in South African football. Gordon deserves to be our national football coach.

      Namedi - 2012-04-22 06:37

I hear you Mike, however, it would be suicidal for Swallows to let Gordon go.
