Johannesburg - Gavin Hunt says he has a ‘good’ squad ahead of the new season as he looks to guide Bidvest Wits to the Absa Premiership title.
According to the supersport.com website, the Clever Boys have made nine signings to date, most of them experience campaigners as coach Gavin Hunt looks to build a squad capable of claiming 66 points he promised at the end of last season.
Hunt believes that will be a title winning total and helping him will be new acquisitions, defenders Buhle Mkhwanazi, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Dutchman Kees Kwakman and Giorgi Nergadze, midfielders Vincent Pule, Toriq Losper and Dillon Sheppard, and strikers Chris Katongo, Henrico Botes.
“It’s a good squad, the attitude is positive and we have quality players,” Hunt told his club’s website. “They’re tactical signings; each player has been bought to fulfil a certain role in the squad.
“I intend on turning the team around, to enable it to gain more points than last season, and mostly to win some cups.”
Hunt says key to success this season will be converting the numerous chances they wasted in the previous season.
“I will adapt the same style of play. The team only needs to learn to convert opportunities into goals and put points on the board. The aim is to advance from the position we held last year.”
