Hunt: Stars outplayed us

Johannesburg - Wits coach Gavin Hunt has praised Free State Stars for their performance in their 3-1 victory over his charges at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday evening.

Richard Henyekane scored a hat-trick as Stars ran riot over the Students, while Luyolo Nomandela terrorised the hosts throughout.

The Clever Boys coach admitted that Stars were simply at the top of their game and outplayed them all-round.

"We were second all over the pitch tonight," Hunt said after the game.

"All credit to them. I mean they won every tackle, ball and anything that went into the box they cleared. They outfought us and had three chances then they scored."

Hunt, however, said he did warn the players of the danger of playing a team facing relegation.

"This is what happens when you play these types of teams and I told the players that this was going to be our hardest game of the season. And it was indeed a difficult one and this was our worst performance," said the Wits boss.

Before the match, Stars were 15th on the log table and the victory elevated them to 13th position.

Coach Kinnah Phiri believes the win was a turning point for the Free State outfit, as they try to fight relegation.

"Slowly we are creeping through. I am sure this win has boosted the confidence of the players," Phiri said.

"When we go back to the drawing board, we will try and rectify here and there. I am sure things will come right."

Stars leapfrogged Polokwane City, who succumbed to a 1-0 loss to title hopefuls Mamelodi Sundowns.

The loss dented Wits' title dreams as they now find themselves nine points adrift of Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
