According to KickOff, Gumede admits that the Buccaneers offer him a challenge to reach the highest level in his career.

“I wanted a stiffer challenge, and to be able to compete at the highest level,” said Gumede.

Rooi Mahamutsa, Siyabonga Sangweni and Ayanda Gcaba are now vying for that centre-back role in the heart of Buccaneers’ defence; Gumede knows he has to put the work in to get first team action.

“Firstly, I have to put as much pressure on them [Mahamutsa, Sangweni and Gcaba] and find a way to challenge for a place in the team.

“Hopefully then I will be able to cement one.”

Gumede has a chance to make his debut against AmaZulu in KwaZulu Natal at the Moses Mabhida Stadium when the PSL resumes.

The game is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11 while the game starts at 19:30.
