Pretoria - Kaizer Chiefs defender Siboniso Gaxa has heaped praise on his fellow defenders for a job well done this season, following a stellar defensive effort for a second consecutive season.

With two games remaining in the current campaign, the Glamour Boys have only conceded a total of 12 goals, which also played a significant role in earning the Soweto giants their fourth PSL title.

The Durban-born right back also admitted that Amakhosi won the league collectively as they are perfectly balanced in every department.

“We are so happy as a team and personally I’m also delighted with how we were playing this season,” Gaxa said after Chiefs' 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in Atteridgeville on Wednesday night.

“There is a saying which states that strikers win games but defenders win championships.

“As you can see that these championships wins were more of a collective effort when it comes to defending, from the strikers to goalkeepers.

“As I said, defenders win championships, so here we are again this season with the best defensive record.”

Chiefs will be handed their 2014/15 Absa Premiership trophy after their final match against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on May 9.
