Gabuza refused to give up

Cape Town - Thamsanqa Gabuza opened up about being overlooked for years at Orlando Pirates, stating that it would have been cowardly to give up the fight.

After joining Pirates from Golden Arrows two seasons ago, Gabuza spent much of his time as on the substitutes bench.

Recently the 28-year-old's hard work has been paying off after setting the scene alight for Pirates in the CAF Confederations Cup group qualification rounds.

Gabuza told KickOff that the competition for places had kept him on his toes and wanted to remain with the Buccaneers.

"I always knew that I would be faced with tough competition here at the club, so I knew that I shouldn't be a coward and leave," Gabuza said.

"The tight competition kept pushing me to lift my game to another level as all other strikers in the squad were quality.

"I am definitely staying! I still have a contract with Pirates and I still enjoy playing for this team."
