Cape Town - Under-fire Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese may have lost some
favour with the fans, but the players on Thursday confirmed he still has
their support.
Dikwena captain Vuyo Mere is backing Freese, who has been under tremendous pressure following his side's poor run of results in the Premiership.
Mere insists that his coach's accomplishments at the club need to be taken into consideration before passing judgement.
"It's unfair for people to say that coach Allan Freese's job is on the line," Mere said at a Telkom Knockout press conference in Parktown.
"You have to remember he (Freese) has won two trophies for the club last season, something that no other coach has been able to do."
Dinaledi have only two wins and two draws to show from their nine league outings – losing five with only seven goals to their name.
Success in the Telkom Knockout will therefore go a long way in restoring the faith supporters may have lost in recent times.
Mere added: "Look it would be nice to defend one of our titles, we have already lost out on the MTN8 and we've only got the Telkom Knockout cup to defend.
"It's going to be a tough match knowing the quality they have in their squad, but we are prepared to go all the way with them."
Mere said that Sunday's showdown against Mamelodi Sundowns would be a good platform for the players to reward Freese for the trust he has placed in them.
"It's up to us as the players to stand by the coach and support him,” Mere concluded.
