Fitness keeps Cale out

Cape Town - Franklin Cale is struggling to find fitness and will only start playing for Ajax Cape Town in at least a month’s time.

According to KickOff, Cale hasn't played much football last season due to a knee injury and Roger De Sa has given the midfielder at least six weeks before returning to the match 22.

“He (Cale) is back at training with the rest of the team and getting back now but is not 100 percent fit as yet,” said De Sa.

The 31-year-old previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United but struggled to get game time at Sundowns after making 36 appearances in three seasons.

De Sa mentions that Cale has gained weight after missing much of last season but believes playing football won’t be a problem for the former youth product of Ajax.

“What is encouraging is that the actual injury has healed now but we are now working on his body as he is still a bit heavy after missing out on all that football last season. Once the body gets back to shape, playing football will not be a problem for him.”
