Johannesburg - Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Papi Zothwane failed to pitch up for training at Moroka Swallows, as he aims to resurrect his career.
According to the Soccer-Laduma website, Zothwane was expected to start training with the Dube Birds on Tuesday morning, however did not show up.
“I was waiting for Papi to come to training today(Tuesday), but he didn’t come. Maybe his car broke down or something, I don’t know. I’m hoping that he would still come this week,” Swallows coach Zeca Marques told the Siya crew."
Meanwhile, Marques confirmed that former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Gert Schalkwyk, is training at the club.
“At the moment, I have Gert and Thando Mngomeni training with us. I have a week or two to assess these players. Let’s hope they’ll do enough to convince me to sign them,” added Marques.
Swallows have released a number of players since the end of last season. The Birds have so far released Oscar Machapa, Cheick Cisse, Mpho Maleka and Joseph Makhanya.
David Mathebula and Bennett Chenene have joined SuperSport United, while Sibusiso Khumalo has moved to Mamelodi Sundowns.
