Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral believes his side beat Kaizer Chiefs because the game plan he implemented did not allow the Amakhosi to play their natural game, and he lauded his players for that.
The Urban Warriors ran out 3-1 winners in their league match on Wednesday night and while Ertugral admits it was a tough game, he believes his side could have beaten Chiefs by an even greater margin.
“It was a tough game for us,” said Ertugral after the match.
“Obviously Kaizer Chiefs has the upper hand in terms of passing patterns, but what made me proud of my boys was firstly their heart and secondly our organisation, we didn’t allow Chiefs to play.
“Overall we had the better chances and we could have scored two or three more and I am not exaggerating.”
The result saw Ajax out of the relegation zone into 14th place on the table with 27 points from their 28 league games, three clear of 15th placed Chippa United and four clear of Black Leopards (although Leopards do have a game in hand).
Ertugral, though, who has been in charge for two games now registering a draw and win, never doubted his players who he feels just needed the right leadership to succeed.
“These boys are so good and I am enjoying being united with this team again,” added Ertugral.
“They have so many good players and they just needed the right guidance.”
