'Downs to test Chippa

Cape Town - Chippa United’s winning run in the Absa Premiership will be put to the test by Mamelodi Sundowns when the teams meet at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Chippa racked up a third successive league victory when they defeated AmaZulu 1-0 away on the weekend.

The Eastern Cape side has claimed seven points from four home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Polokwane City (away), Bidvest Wits (home) and Bloemfontein Celtic (away).

The Chilli Boys are placed sixth on the Absa Premiership log with 13 points from eight matches.

Sundowns’ winning streak was ended at three matches when they were held to a goalless draw by Bidvest Wits on the weekend.

The Tshwane side has claimed nine points from a possible 12 in away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Free State Stars, Black Aces (both home) and Kaizer Chiefs (away).

The Brazilians are placed fourth on the Absa Premiership log with 14 points from eight matches.

In head-to-head stats, Chippa and Sundowns have met in just two previous league matches.

Both of those encounters took place in the 2012/13 season. The Brazilians won their home match 1-0, while the return game in Cape Town ended 1-1.

Kick-off at 19:30 on Wednesday, October 22.
