Downs snub R14m Mphela bid

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly refused an improved R14m offer from Terek Grozny for star striker Katlego Mphela.

The Russian club doubled their original bid on Tuesday, without success, according to the player's agent Steven Kapeluschnik.

"I went back to the club [in Russia] for an improved offer for Mphela, but on Tuesday, Sundowns rejected the improved offer, which might be some sort of a record for a South African club to be offered R14m," he was quoted as saying by the Times Live website.

"They have failed to discuss why they can't accept the offer and it looks like Mphela will be playing in the PSL this season."

Mphela, who has 18 goals in 36 matches for South Africa, has been in demand since top-scoring in the Premier Soccer League last season and impressing at the recent World Cup.

Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers have also declared their interest in the former FC Strasbourg man.
