'Downs on a winning quest

Cape Town - Free State Stars will look to hand Mamelodi Sundowns a second successive Absa Premiership defeat when the teams meet at Charles Mopeli Stadium.

Stars played to a fourth successive draw in 2015 when they held Orlando Pirates 1-1 at home in midweek.

The Free State side has claimed 16 points from 10 home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Moroka Swallows, AmaZulu (both away) and Ajax Cape Town (home).

Ea Lla Koto are placed 13th on the Absa Premiership log with 22 points from 21 matches.

Sundowns suffered a first league defeat since August last year when they were beaten 1-0 at Bidvest Wits in midweek.

The Tshwane side has claimed 19 points from 11 away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Polokwane City, Chippa United (both home) and Black Aces (away).

The Brazilians are placed third on the log with 37 points from 20 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Stars and Sundowns have met in 50 league matches since 1986.

The Brazilians have 23 wins compared to 10 for Ea Lla Koto, while 17 matches have been drawn.

Stars have won seven of their 24 home matches against Sundowns, suffering eight defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, ‘Downs claimed a 2-0 home wins thanks to goals from Malajila and Billiat.

Kick-off is at 20:15 on Saturday, March 7.
