'Downs face a tricky Maritzburg

Cape Town - Maritzburg United will look to end Mamelodi Sundowns’ unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership when the teams meet at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Maritzburg played to a seventh draw of the season when they were held 1-1 by AmaZulu on Friday.

The KwaZulu-Natal team has claimed 13 points from eight home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Polokwane City (away), Bidvest Wits (home), Chippa United (away).

The Team of Choice is placed sixth on the league standings with 22 points from 15 matches.

Sundowns extended their unbeaten run in the league to 11 matches when they were held to a 1-1 draw by University of Pretoria.

The Tshwane side has claimed 13 points from eight away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Ajax Cape Town, Moroka Swallows (both home) and AmaZulu (away).

The Brazilians are placed third on the PSL log with 25 points from 15 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and Sundowns have met in 17 league matches since 2005/06.

The Brazilians have 11 wins compared to three for the Team of Choice, while three matches have been drawn.

Maritzburg have won two of their eight home matches against ‘Downs, suffering five defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season in Tshwane they played to a 1-1 draw with goals from Mashego and Awal.

Kick-off is at 20:00 on Tuesday, December 16.
