'Downs, Wits title clash

Cape Town - Absa Premiership title contenders Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits will clash for maximum points at Loftus Stadium.

Sundowns recorded a third successive victory (and their biggest winning margin of the season) when they defeated Polokwane City 3-0 away.

The Tshwane side has claimed just four points from their three home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Chippa United (away), Free State Stars and Black Aces (both home).

Pitso Mosimane’s side are placed fourth on the Absa Premiership log with 13 points from seven matches.

Wits returned to winning ways in their last league outing, defeating AmaZulu 2-0 at home.

The Johannesburg side has suffered two defeats from three away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Polokwane City (home), Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United (away).

Gavin Hunt’s Clever Boys are placed third on the Absa Premiership log with 13 points from seven matches.

In head-to-head stats, Sundowns and Wits have met in 57 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have claimed 31 wins compared to 15 for the Clever Boys, while 11 matches have been drawn.

Sundowns have won 17 of their 28 home matches against Wits, suffering just four defeats in the process.

Last season the Brazilians won their home match 2-1, while the Clever Boys claimed three points in their home fixture with a 3-1 victory.

The epic encounter is set to start at 18:00 on Saturday, October 18.
