Doutie confirms Indian move

Cape Town - Sameehg Doutie has confirmed that he has signed a contract with Atletico Madrid’s Indian Super League (ISL) side Atletico de Kolkata.

In what seems a strange move, Doutie has joined the inaugural ISL champions on a four month contract.

However, it has been reported that La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have offered to help him find a European club when his contract expires.

Doutie spoke briefly to Sport24 confirming the move, but he wasn’t in the position to shed any light on the deal.

“I’m going there to the Indian league, yes,” said the former Orlando Pirates midfielder.

“It’s a four month contract, that’s how much I know.”

Atletico de Kolkata won the ISL last season and already have a South African connection with former Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Antonio López Habas currently managing the team.

Deshi Bakhtawar also worked as goalkeeper coach for the club last season.
