Cape Town - Orlando Pirates striker Collins Mbesuma says nothing short of a victory will suffice when they tackle Wits at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday (18:00 kick-off).
Pirates are currently third on the PSL log, trailing leaders Kaizer Chiefs by nine points and Platinum Stars by three, although the Buccaneers have a game in hand.
However, they have only five games left in the campaign, which means another slip-up would likely mean the end of their title aspirations.
Mbesuma, who netted a brace in the 3-1 CAF Champions League win over TP Mazembe at weekend, declared his intentions ahead of the Wits match.
“A win for us is a must,” the Zambian international told the Orlando Pirates website. “We are in a do-or-die situation right now and nothing else but three points will be enough for us. We have to give our all against Wits on Saturday."
The 29-year-old also assured fans that they will fight all the way to avoid their arch rivals, Chiefs, from claiming the title.
“The fact that our opposition (Kaizer Chiefs) have not won the league after our series of draws is an indication that we had put ourselves in a strong enough position at the turn of the year to go into the final straight at full speed but unfortunately due to a number of factors we were just unable to win matches that we should have won.
“Having said that, we have not given up at all. We are still committed to the cause and we are prepared to fight to the end. We need to slot away the chances we have been creating and stop conceding soft goals towards the end of the match.”
