Rustenburg - Platinum Stars have shot up to fourth in the PSL after a 1-0 victory over the University of Pretoria at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Wednesday.
WRAP: PSL
Siphelele Mthembu scored the only goal of the game in the dying seconds of the first half, with Dikwena stretching their unbeaten start to the season to seven matches in all competitions.
It was a fourth goal in six matches for Mthembu in what was another excellent performance in a lone striker role.
AmaTuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi was forced into a number of saves in the first half, keeping out Mthembu and Mogakolodi Ngele, who came back into the side after missing the 0-0 draw at Free State Stars on the weekend.
But he was beaten in injury-time in the first half, Vuyo Mere feeding Mthembu in the area and the hungry striker slotted the ball home.
That would have drastically changed AmaTuks coach Steve Barker’s halftime teamtalk, but it was much of the same after the break with Mthembu and Robert Ng’ambi going close for the home side.
Obadiah Tarumbwa and Khethu Zwane had good opportunities for the visitors after that as they might have stolen a point, but Stars held on for what was ultimately a deserved victory.
Next up for Dikwena is a massive away clash at Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday night, while AmaTuks host battling Lamontville Golden Arrows.
