Pretoria - Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach Henri Michel has admitted that his team lost to a better side after suffering a 4-1 defeat against SuperSport United at the Super Stadium on Thursday night.
Michel watched in disbelief as Liberian striker Anthony Laffor ran circles around his charges before thumping in three goals and creating another to give United an emphatic victory over the Brazilians.
Speaking in a post-match interview in Atteridgeville on Thursday, the Frenchman said the final score was a true reflection of the game.
“They were the better team. We failed to do what the opposition did on the field and the scoreline shows the big difference.
“We were let down by defensive mistakes and also failed to make use of the goalscoring opportunities that came our way, and hence the final score remained at 4-1 in favour of SuperSport United.”
With results failing to come his way since he joined Sundowns last year, Michel also down played suggestions that his days are numbered at Chloorkop.
“At this moment I am not focusing whether my contract is renewed at the end of the season or not, but rather getting this team to achieve the kind of performance I that I expect.
“We may have failed to get good results, but I am very happy with the positive things that I have achieved at Sundowns. We have improved lot in terms of our physical and tactical aspects of football.”
