Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town coach, Roger De Sa, says that he is happy with his side’s performance in the Cape Town cup saying that it is the perfect preparation for the season ahead.
Ajax drew their opening match 2-2 with Sporting Lisbon putting up an impressive team performance. After losing on penalties they faced SuperSport United on Sunday and, with a largely second string side, managed to score a late goal to draw 1-1.
“I’m happy with the whole tournament, the whole weekend was fantastic,” De Sa said.
“We tried to give everybody a run and we did, there were a couple of players like (Granwald) Scott and Bantu (Mzwakali) who we didn’t risk (in the Sunday game).
“Rivaldo (Coetzee) and (Abubakar) Mobara played one half each so we didn’t take any chances but at least we gave everybody a run.
“I’m a bit disappointed that it didn’t go to penalties so that Franklin (Cale) and Mobara could take another penalty each,” De Sa joked after the pair both missed their spot-kicks in the game against Sporting, having done the same in the Nedbank cup final.
“For me our biggest positive was the way we played Friday night.
“We have got a tough one against Pirates in our first game,” he concluded.
De Sa’s charges will face his former club in the MTN8 quarter finals on Tuesday, August 4.
