De Sa jumps Pirates' ship

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates have confirmed that Roger de Sa has resigned from his managerial role on Friday and is believed to have joined Ajax Cape Town to fill the role vacated by Muhsin Ertugral.

According to the club's official website, De Sa thanked club president, Irvin Khoza in his resignation letter before thanking the players and staff.

“I will always be appreciative and I take with me fond memories of my time at the club”, said De Sa.

“I wish everybody at the club including the technical team, players and management success in the future," he added.

Khoza responded in saying that despite De Sa not helping the club to any silverware during his time at the club, he thanked the former Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper for taking the club to the CAF Champions League final for the first time in 15 years.

“I know Roger would have loved to add the second golden star to the Orlando Pirates logo," said Khoza.

"He now knows how to get there.

"All that is left is for him to clinch it.

"A feat I have no doubt he will achieve in his career as a coach”, he added.

Pirates have confirmed that De Sa's assistant, Eric Tinkler, will assume the role of caretaker coach.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
