Port Elizabeth - Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa has described his team’s display against Maritzburg United on Friday night as his "worst performance" despite the Bucs walking away with a 2-1 victory away from home.
Pirates played to two back-to-back draws going to this game against Maritzburg at the Nelson Mandela Stadium and needed a win which they managed to scrape through.
“It wasn’t a very good performance let’s be honest and it’s probably my worst performance at Pirates but we managed to scratch a win. There is a lot of work to be done, hopefully we can improve in our next match,” the Pirates mentor said. “ It wasn’t pretty today(Friday) we gave the ball away to cheaply and our final third was terrible today but we got the three points.
At half-time I warned the guys that we gave away our 1-0 lead against Chiefs and today against a 10-man team we should have done a lot better.”
But Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp praised his team for the way they bounced back even after they were reduced to 10-man after Ruben Cloete was sent of for a studs up challenge on Thandani Ntshumayelo.
“We not getting returns for our hardwork even against Platinum Stars we came out wondering what happened. In my opnion Ruben Cloete was the man of the match for as long as he was on the pitch and the redcard I want to have a look at it again,” Middendorp said.
