Da Gama: Motupa is an absolute gem

Cape Town - Head coach of the South African Under-23 national team Owen Da Gama says that former Baroka FC star Gift Motupa is a complete player.

The under-23 mentor said he has been following the player for some time and considers him an ‘absolute gem’.

Motupa, who was captain of Baroka, joined Orlando Pirates at the end of last season.

"I have been following him (Motupa) for some time now, I have tracked him with Baroka a couple of times and then we had to include him in the Bafana Bafana squad in both matches against Mauritius," he told Sport24.

"We have got a clear picture of what he is about, he is an absolute gem.

"There is no doubt that this boy is going to go big, big, big.

"He’s a complete player, the boy can defend, he can attack and he’s been Baroka’s top goal scorer since I have known the team existed."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
