Amakhosi will find themselves without their biggest contributors next season as Kaizer Motaung announced a mass exodus of players from the club.
Along with Khune, Mandla Masango, Tefu Mashamaite and Katlego Mphela will leave Naturena and seek a new club to play for.
Motaung has confirmed that contract negotiations with Khune and his representatives hit several snags over the past few months.
"As far as Itu is concerned, his case became more disrespectful to the club,” said Motaung at the clubs press conference.
“He sent us a note to say he will discuss [his contract] on 18 June.
"We cannot be held to ransom by anyone. The game and the club is bigger than anyone. We have decided to move on.”
The 70-year-old went further on to state that “Spiderkid” has been with the Glamour Boys for so long; he is confused with how money has become an issue.
“We look after our players,” said Motaung.
“If a player has stayed at the club for so long, how can it now be a money issue.
"Itu came to us at the age of 13, we developed him to where he is today. But life goes on."
Khune's contract with Chiefs will expire at the end of June and will be free to join any club in the PSL or abroad.
It has been reported that Mamelodi Sundowns will be his likely suitors as no other team in the Premiership can afford his salary.
