Middendorp: Pressure nothing new

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic coach Ernst Middendorp curbed rumours that he is under more pressure than he already is.

According to KickOff, the German coach was reportedly close to being sacked after a poor start to the soccer season.

Celtic lie in 14th position on the log with just six points from their opening seven games but most notably Siwele have managed just one win in that time.

The coach's future was then put into further jeopardy following the Bloemfontein side's exit from the Telkom Knockout. Fellow PSL strugglers AmaZulu pulled off a shock 3-2 win which added more pressure on the 55-year-old German.

Middendorp has brushed off the intense speculation regarding his future and played down the pressure for results.

"Coaching job is pressure at any moment, anytime and this is nothing new," said Middendorp.

"I'm not thinking about having more pressure or less pressure, we are just not winning games and we have to work on it to move forward into a direction to have a better result.

"Of course it is, again, not satisfying for not going through to the next round," the coach said after being knocked out by Usuthu.

Due to the FIFA international break, Celtic will take part in the Macufe Cup where they will face Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, October 12.

When the PSL resumes Siwelele will face Polokwane City at Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium on Sunday, October 19. The match kicks off at 15:30.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
