Pietermaritzburg- Premier Soccer League (PSL) strugglers Maritzburg United have revealed the mandate given to newly appointed head coach Clive Barker.
Barker joined the Team of Choice to replace Mandla Ncikazi, who was given the boot last month following a poor run of results.
United are currently rooted at the bottom of the Absa premiership log table after six matches played.
The KZN-based club’s spokesperson, Brian Zuma, confirmed that Barker is expected to steer the team out of the relegation zone and also guide them to a top 8 finish at the end of the season.
“The immediate mandate is to lift the club from the bottom of the log,” Zuma told Sport24.
“That’s something we want as a team at the moment because we didn’t have the best of starts to the season.
“And for the season, it is to finish in the top eight, just like we did in the past season.”
Maritzburg’s next assignment will be against Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals on Saturday.
