Chippa look for fresh start

Cape Town - Moroka Swallows will look to keep on soaring in the PSL when they host Chippa United  at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

PSL: Our pick of the pile

Zeca Marques’ will be looking to continue their fine early season PSL form when the two sides meet on Sunday Afternoon. Swallows will be hoping to put their 3-0 drubbing at the hand of Wits behind them and return to winning ways in the PSL.

Swallows, spearheaded by top goalscorer in the league Lerato Chabangu, will be hoping to claim a fourth league win of their 2014/15 campaign. Chabangu has now scored 4 goals so far and will be hoping to put a few more past a struggling Chippa United.

The Dube Birds are placed fourth on the Absa Premiership log with nine points from five matches, a position Ashraf Hendricks revealed is their target as they look to erase last season’s 13th place disappointment.

The Soweto side has claimed six points from a possible nine in away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Free State Stars (away), Black Aces (home) and Kaizer Chiefs (away).

Chippa United, without Kosta Papic at the helm, now face the task of re-starting their PSL campaign. The Port Elizabeth-based side are without a point on the road so far this season which would suggest that Swallows may have the upper hand in this encounter.

The Chilli Boys mananged to end their losing streak in the PSL by holding Ajax Cape Town to a 1-1 draw in their last league outing.

Chippa United face a tough fixture list in the PSL over the next month as they are scheduled to face Orlando Pirates (home), AmaZulu (away) and Mamelodi Sundowns (home) in their next three matches.

The Chilli Boys are placed 13th on the log with four points from five matches.

In head-to-head stats, Swallows and Chippa have had just two previous top flight league meetings. Both of those encounters took place in the 2012/13 season.

The teams drew 1-1 in Soweto before the return match in Cape Town was won 2-1 by the Chilli Boys.

Kick-off is at 15:00 on Sunday, September 14.
