Chippa give coach the chop

Johannesburg - Premiership strugglers Chippa United have sacked head coach Farouk Abrahams and appointed their fourth coach of the season.

Chippa said in a statement on Tuesday they had parted ways with Abrahams by mutual agreement.

"We can further announce that Wilfred Mugeyi will take over with immediate effect," the club said.

Abrahams replaced Roger Sikhakhane in October and was given the full-time post in December.

In eight games in charge, Abrahams guided the team to five draws, one win and two defeats.

Mugeyi, a former Zimbabwean international player and assistant coach at Ajax Cape Town, takes over a struggling outfit who are lying second from bottom in the league table.

They play their next league game, after a lengthy two-month break, against Free State Stars in Phuthaditjhaba on February 13.

The Cape Town outfit, promoted to the Premiership this season, have won only two of 16 matches in the top-flight league campaign.
