The radio veteran has previously held a similar position at Kaizer Chiefs, where he was acclaimed for his role in growing the club's supporter base.
Chippa chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has backed Mafani to boost the side's effort in establishing themselves in the Eastern Cape region, following their relocation from Cape Town.
"Since the opening of the season that coincided with our move to the Eastern Cape, we have been mostly focusing on the club's on-field strength plus stability," Mpengesi said in a statement posted on the club's website.
"Now that we seem to have found our rhythm, the next best thing was to take our management and administration to another level.
"The brand of Chippa United is a growing and aspirational brand, so
we thought a person of Putco Mafani's calibre would be ideal to help
take us there with his knowledge, talent and experience.
"Our business stake holder management is a critical component of the
game and Putco will drive our image and serve us, as the voice of Chippa
United nationally and beyond," he added.
