Johannesburg - Katlego Mphela will be free to play for Kaizer Chiefs when they return from weekend action in the African Champions League line-up next Wednesday against FC Buffalo from Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
This follows his dramatic departure from the game on Wednesday when Chiefs beat Ajax Cape Town 2-0 at Polokwane to stretch their lead in the Absa Premiership standings.
Mphela, who had come on as a 79th minute substitute for Kingston Nkhatha, was stretchered off the pitch with suspected concussion during the referee’s optional time in what looked to be a serious injury.
“Katlego Mphela sustained a blow to the head. He expressed some discomfort and symptoms that necessitated evaluation for concussion. Following evaluation and management in the medical room, he was found to be fit to play and without any lingering symptoms,” said a statement from his club.
Mphela did not travel to Kinshasa for Sunday’s African Champions League third round, first leg tie against AS V Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo because he is not registered for the competition.
But he will be able to play on Wednesday when Chiefs meet FC Buffalo of East London at Soccer City in the second round of the Nedbank Cup.
