Chiefs tops in social media war

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have turned their on-field superiority into social media success and are streets ahead of arch-rivals and Soweto neighbours, Orlando Pirates, when it comes to fans, followers and all things hashtag related.

After strolling past Orlando Pirates last Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs can now add a social media victory to their list of achievements this season.

Kaizer Chiefs - or better known as @Kaizer_Chiefs - have a whopping 361 375 followers on Twitter while the Buccaneers - or @Orlando_Pirates - have 238 890 followers.

Orlando Pirates on Twitter:

Chiefs 1-0 Pirates

On Facebook, Chiefs again exert their dominance with their official page “liked” by 1 954 177! Orlando Pirates' official page is lagging far behind with just 508 632 “likes”.

Soweto Derby on Facebook

Chiefs 2-0 Pirates

With many sporting brands placing a greater importance on their social media presence with the obvious benefit it can have on a club’s finances, the Glamour Boys are an example for many other teams, regardless of the sporting code, to follow.

Kaizer Chiefs have managed to combine their rich history and success on the field into a force to be reckoned with, in the boardroom and on the internet. A result which will no doubt please the club’s owners, sponsors and even the fans.
