Cape Town – Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Doctor Khumalo has revealed team management will re-watch and evaluate Itumeleng Khune’s red card.

Khune was shown two yellow cards (and subsequently a red card) - the first, for alleged time wasting and a second for reacting to referee Phillip Tinyane’s decision in Amakhosi's 1-0 win over AmaZulu at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Thursday.

According to the club's official website, Khumalo says the match officials are feeling the pressure just as much as the players are.

“We are at that stage of the league season when cool heads and professionalism must prevail. We are professionals,” said Khumalo, who stood in for suspended head coach Stuart Baxter in the post-match press conference.

“It is all in the mind. By the look of things, pressure is mounting on the players and the match officials alike,” the former Chiefs midfielder said this with a wry smile, while reflecting on some of the controversial decisions by the match officials, including the sending off of Khune.

Khumalo added: “We will watch the recordings and, if Khune was at fault, we will take the necessary remedial steps. We have systems in place to deal with such situations.

“Khune is one of the senior players in the team, so he knows what is expected of him.”
