Chiefs sweat over Tshabalala

2012-10-25 12:39

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Siphiwe "Shabba" Tshabalala, faces a late fitness test ahead of the Amakhosi’s Absa Premiership fixture against Maritzburg United this weekend.

The Glamour Boys face The Team of Choice at the Harry Gwala Stadium as they look to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Wits, in the Telkom Knockout.

However, their coach, Stuart Baxter, could face more injury woes after Jimmy Jambo’s injury was followed by news that Shabba had picked up a knock and may be forced to sit out this weekend.

Baxter told the club’s official website, “It has been a difficult week considering the number of players that could not train with us due to different injuries.

“It was of course a blow to lose the services of Jimmy Jambo who might be out for a while and also Siphiwe (Tshabalala) took a knock at the Wits game and fatigue is catching up with him. We will have to wait and see if he is fit for the upcoming game.”

Chiefs are currently sitting pretty at the top of the PSL log, however Maritzburg have had a bright start to the season and will be eager to improve on their fifth place position.

Injuries are part of the game, and teams with big squads like Chimps should deal with such unfortunate incidents with ease. I remember Pirates was in the same situation during the second fixture of 2010/2011 with Chimps at FNB stadium whose grass was just laid due to music concert that took place days earlier. Pirates requested a postponement but Chimps refused because they thought they would beat Pirates without injured key players. Needless to say Bhakaniya broke their hearts and they regretted it.
