Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach, Doctor Khumalo, admits that Amakhosi players did the opposite to what they were told during the second half.
As it happened: Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates
According to Soccer Laduma, Doc Khumalo has revealed that he does not know why Chiefs players “took the foot off the pedal” after being instructed to take the game to Orlando Pirates.
“We dominated the first 45 minutes, but we took the foot off the pedal in the second half,” said Khumalo.
Tefu Mashamaite's first half headed effort was the only goal in a game that had several chances and could easily have had a big scoreline.
Both Stuart Baxter and Vladimir Vermezovic said that it was a game of two halves as Orlando Pirates were the better side in the second forty five minutes.
Khumalo added that the right plan was in place for Amakhosi to overcome their fierce rivals even though Brilliant Khuzwayo made a string of fantastic saves to keep Sea Robbers off the score sheet.
“It was a very tough one, Pirates are a good team, they made us run, but I must say it was a good plan by the technical team.”
Chiefs shift their focus to their league campaign as they take on Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday, September 27 at the FNB Stadium.
Kick-off is scheduled for 20:15.
