Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has declared the club has not yet closed its cheque book, despite having already signed a raft of new players.
Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter initially asked for a squad of 28 players for the new campaign, and Motaung has revealed there are currently 27 players registered at Naturena.
Chiefs, however, continue to be linked with Santos attacker Erwin Isaacs and Jomo Cosmos winger Matthew Rusike, who is currently training with Ajax Cape Town, and Motaung admitted there is a possibility of more players moving to the Soweto club before the close of the transfer period.
"Football is a funny business and you never close the cheque book until the window period closes. So we are always on the lookout for something exceptional and if we get that, then we always open the cheque book," Motaung told Football411.
However, 'Bobsteak' has warned that Chiefs will only do business for players who will add value to the squad, rather than ones who would just make up the numbers.
"If the coach feels he still needs some more players then we will sit down to discuss it and check if it is better than what we have, that's how it goes," he added.
"We assisted the coach in getting the players that we felt could cover some of the areas where we were lacking and in turn the coach is going to speak to us soon about where he feels we need to strengthen and, like I said, we will first look at what we have once he makes his recommendations and then act on it.
"As it stands, the coach is happy with the team and he has no complaints, but if he feels there is something out there that's better than what we have then we are going to bring that player on board," Motaung concluded.
Chiefs have already brought in Eric Mathoho, Sakhile Hlongwa, Morgan Gould, Nhlanhla Khuzwayo, Siboniso Gaxa, Siyabonga Nkosi and Kingston Nkhatha during the off-season.
