Johannesburg - Despite speculation that Kaizer Chiefs skipper Tefu Mashamaite and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune could be on their way out of Naturena when their contracts expire next month, Amakhosi spokesperson Vina Maphosa has distanced the club from the allegations.
In an exclusive interview with Sport24 on Thursday, Maphosa said the club is busy preparing for a trophy parade which is likely to take place this week were the Phefeni Glamour Boys will shpwcase their Absa Premiership and MTN8 trophies in Johannesburg.
Maphosa also confirmed that contract talks with the two players will commence next week and they will make a public announcement regarding the matter after their players’ awards ceremony scheduled for May 21.
“At the moment we are busy preparing for our trophy parade,” said Maphosa.
“Then afterwards and possibly by next week, the club will start with the players’ contract negotiations.
“Then we can start releasing media statements after the club awards on May 21.
“So for the coming two weeks, the negotiations will be underway with the players. Just give us these two weeks, and then all will be done.”
Khune, 27, has been linked with a possible move to the big spending Mamelodi Sundowns as well as arch rivals Orlando Pirates, while Mashamaite has been strongly linked with a return to Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United.
It remains to be seen if both key players will remain in the Chiefs camp next season.
