Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs’ deal with Lebogang Manyama might have fallen through but they have tied down their central defender Erick Mathoho to a contract extension that keeps him at the club until 2017.
His current three-year deal was only due to expire in June 2015 but the club have awarded the 23-year-old, who has won caps for South Africa, two more years.
"This is an early Christmas present for me. I will continue to work hard and show commitment to the Club that I have admired since my younger days. I would like to thank everyone concerned with making my stay at Chiefs a happy one," he told the club’s website.
The contract follows on the decision to pull the plug on the deal with Lebogang Manyama, who did not agree personal terms after his club Ajax Cape Town and Chiefs had concluded transfer negotiations.
Chiefs have been in a sudden whirl of activity in recent days with a contract extension also granted to coach Stuart Baxter.
