Chiefs gun for derby points

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs will look to make it nine Absa Premiership wins when they face Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows at the FNB Stadium.

Chiefs racked up an eighth successive win at the start of the season when they defeated Ajax Cape Town 1-0 away on the weekend.

The Soweto giants have beaten Bloemfontein Celtic, SuperSport United, University of Pretoria and Maritzburg United at home this season.

Their next three league opponents are Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu (both away) and Mamelodi Sundowns (home).

Stuart Baxter's side are placed first on the Absa Premiership log with 24 points from eight matches.

Swallows suffered a fourth successive defeat in the league when they were beaten 3-2 at home by Black Aces on the weekend.

The Soweto side has claimed three points from as many matches on the road this season.

Their next three league opponents are Platinum Stars, SuperSport United and University of Pretoria (all home).

The Birds are placed 12th on the Absa Premiership log with nine points from eight matches.

In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and Swallows have met in 59 league matches since 1985.

The Amakhosi have three times as many wins as the Birds (33 versus 11), while 15 of the teams’ matches have ended in draws.

Chiefs have won 17 of their 30 home matches against Swallows, suffering five defeats in the process.

Last season, the Amakhosi took four points off their Soweto rivals, drawing 1-1 at home before claiming a 2-0 away win in the return match. Kick-off at 19:30 on Wednesday, October 22.
