Chiefs eye former SA coach

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs are looking to firm up their deal for coach Stuart Baxter, according to a report on SoccerLaduma.

The former Bafana Bafana coach has been identified as the favourite for the hot seat at Naturena since Vladimir Vermezovic was relieved of his position at the club and even though he has explained that he has had no contact from the club, it is thought that they are finally preparing something to table for the Scotsman.

A source explained, “Chiefs are trying to firm up a deal at the minute but they’ve had to put the breaks on things in order to sort out what’s going on at the minute, it’s a damage limitation.”

SoccerLaduma contacted Baxter who said that his situation was still the same, at that he had heard nothing as of yet.

Baxter explained, “My situation hasn’t changed, I’ll be looking at whatever is put on the table in front of me between now and the European Championships.”

The Amakhosi management has insisted that they will have found Vermezovic’s replacement by the end of May so they have around a month to finalise things for whoever is going to come in, however it is still thought that Baxter will be the man to lead them into next season’s campaign.
