Polokwane - Table-topping Kaizer Chiefs extended their unbeaten Premiership run to nine matches, courtesy of a first half strike from Lehlohonolo Majoro and a second half brace from substitute Kingston Nkhatha, to hand Amakhosi a comfortable 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Chiefs headed into the clash on the back of a 1-1 draw with Maritzburg United in their last league outing a fortnight ago.
Amakhosi were without their top goal-scorer Bernard Parker, who was ruled out due to an aggravated ankle injury, but welcomed back defender Siboniso Gaxa, who returned for the first time since September.
Chiefs had their first opportunity of the match as early as the second minute, after Gaxa played an intelligent ball into the Arrows area, finding Majoro, who forced a diving save from Arrows goalkeeper Pavels Steinbors, tipping over the bar to deny the early goal.
Chiefs broke the deadlock 12 minutes later, after a solid build-up involving the midfield led Siphiwe Tshabalala to find Majoro, who slotted home with a first-time effort, to open the scoring with his fourth of the season.
Having taken the lead, Chiefs looked to double their advantage, with chances falling to Majoro, Tshabalala and Siyabonga Nkosi, but George Lebese came closest in the 36th minute as he fired a shot narrowly over the crossbar, inching over the goal to keep the lead down to one.
After going into the half-time break a goal up, dominating possession and scoring opportunities in the first period, Amakhosi came out guns blazing in the second, with Lebese again denied in the 47th minute, this time by Steinbors, who made a superb diving save to keep the visitors in with a chance.
A quiet second period followed, but the hosts finally doubled their lead with 15 minutes to left to play, after a pinpoint long ball from the Chiefs' defence found Nkhatha, who beat the offside trap and headed past Steinbors, who came out of his area and was left stranded as the ball crept over the line, for Nkhatha's third of the league campaign.
Six minutes later, Nkhatha scored his second of the night, after another long ball found the former Black Leopards striker unmarked, with Nkhatha drilling his effort past Steinbors at the near post, to complete a convincing sixth win of the league season for the Soweto giants.
