Cape Town – Kaizer Chiefs have released a statement regarding the injury on defender Tsepo Masilela.
The left-back was due to join Bafana Bafana’s training camp in the run up to South Africa’s AFCON 2017 qualifier against Mauritania on Saturday, September 5.
“Tsepo's knee swelled up after the match against Bloemfontein Celtic,” said Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner on the club’s website.
“Tsepo has a well-documented history of knee problems, which needs to be looked after carefully.”
“It was therefore decided that he needed to rest for seven days.
“Tsepo is currently getting an alternative opinion overseas on how to manage the knee.
“Once the knee is settled, he should be able start training again in about ten days’ time.”
As a result of this, Masilela was unable to report for South African national team duty.
Bafana are coming from a disappointing goalless draw against Gambia back in June while Mauritania are coming from a 1-0 loss to the Group M leaders Cameroon.
The match will kick-off at 20:00 (SA time).
