Chiefs' Tau 'back in a week'

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs fullback Jimmy Tau will make his return to action "in a week", according to coach Vladimir Vermezovic.

The former Amakhosi captain has only recently returned to Naturena following the passing of his sister through illness.

His absence has left him far behind his team-mates in terms of match fitness, but Vermezovic has revealed the defender has been undertaking a special training regime.

However, the Glamour Boys' Nedbank Cup last-32 clash against Cape Town All Stars might come too soon for the 31-year-old.

"Jimmy (Tau) was three weeks behind other players as he reported back late from camp following the passing away of his sister. He has been working on a program and should be back in a week."

Tau was amongst those watching on from the stands as Chiefs were held to a 1-1 draw by Bidvest Wits at the weekend - a result which left Chiefs three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Vermezovic visibly frustrated.

He added: "We missed a perfect opportunity to close the game between us and the leading pack. I think we started well scoring inside the first five minutes of the game. Once again we created lot of opportunities that we did not convert on the day. We will keep working on the training grounds to become better."
